HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – A Pennsylvania State Police trooper is charged with the abuse of a child.

Steven M. Blain, 49, of Harrisburg, was charged Wednesday with one count of aggravated assault on a child less than 6 years of age and one count of endangering the welfare of children, Lower Paxton Township police said.

Police said the charges resulted from an investigation into an allegation of domestic abuse between March 2015 and March 2016.

In charging documents, police wrote that Blain reportedly dragged the girl up a flight of carpeted stairs by her hair several times, causing abrasions to her back, and during another incident he threw her into her bedroom, causing her to bruise her leg on a bed frame. The girl was 4 and 5 years old at the time.

Blain was arraigned by a district judge and released on $25,000 unsecured bail.

A state police spokesman said Blain has been suspended without pay.
