Mother in court after son, 2, drank pipe cleaner while alone

QUARRYVILLE, Pa. (WHTM) – A Lancaster County woman appeared in court this week after her 2-year-old son suffered life-threatening injuries from drinking pipe cleaner.

Katie Zook, 29, represented herself Thursday when she waived a preliminary hearing on a misdemeanor endangerment charge filed against her.

Last month, Zook confessed to leaving her four children alone for at least an hour on a Drytown Road farm. Inside a dairy barn were pipe cleaner, liquid acid and powdered soap.

Zook’s son was flown to Lehigh Valley Hospital after suffering internal burns from drinking the pipe cleaner.

Judge Raymond S. Sheller ordered Zook to appear in court on November 8 for a formal arraignment.
