CARLISLE, Pa. (WHTM) – A man accused of stealing a pickup truck and leading officers on a pursuit from Cumberland to Dauphin County last week has waived a preliminary hearing.

James J. Haines, 40, was arrested Sept. 28 after Carlisle police said he stole a Toyota Tacoma from the 600 block of Franklin Street and led officers on a chase from Route 581 into Harrisburg. Police said the owner left the truck running while he went inside a store.

The pursuit ended in Swatara Township shortly the Toyota crashed down an embankment.

Haines remains jailed in the Cumberland County Prison on $199,000 bail.

By waiving the hearing, he did not admit guilt but conceded prosecutors have enough evidence for trial.
