HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – A Lancaster woman died and three people were injured in a four-vehicle crash Thursday morning on Interstate 283.
Police said the 35-year-old woman who died was a passenger in a Ford Escape that was struck from behind by a dump truck at mile marker 1.2 in Swatara Township around 8:49 a.m., state police in Harrisburg said.
Police said the dump truck driver, a 27-year-old man from Maytown, was traveling north and for unknown reasons he was unable to avoid striking a Volkswagen Jetta. The truck then struck the Ford, crossed the median and the southbound lanes, and stopped after hitting the grass embankment on the southbound shoulder.
The collision with the Ford pushed it into the back of an Infiniti FX35.
Two other women in the Ford and the driver of the Volkswagen, a 68-year-old Middletown man, were injured.
Police did not immediately release their names.
