YORK, Pa. (WHTM) – One person is dead after a police pursuit ended in a crash late Thursday in York.

According to state police, 51-year-old Carl Snellings, of York, was spotted in a pickup truck wanted in a hit-and-run incident reported near Pleasant Way and McKenzie Street.

Police spotted and stopped the vehicle shortly after midnight, but investigators say the vehicle sped away as the York officers got out of their car.

It’s unclear if Snellings was driving or riding in the car that police were chasing, but said he was ejected from the vehicle. It’s unclear if there was anyone else in the car, the York County coroner said.

An autopsy will be performed Saturday.

Pennsylvania State Police are investigating the crash due to the pursuit by York City Police. Anyone with information is asked to call Pennsylvania State Police in York at 717-428-1011.
