HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) — The Pennsylvania State Employees Credit Union says hundreds of members provided account information to phone scammers last week.
In a video sent to members by email on Tuesday, PSECU president Greg Smith said that while some members suffered a monetary loss, fraud was avoided on the majority of accounts.
“Thankfully, we were able to shut this down quickly so that there was minimal impact,” Smith said. “More than 250 members shared their account information with the fraudsters. We prevented fraud activity on at least 185 of those accounts, and we’re working with the other members on an individual basis.”
Smith also said the security of the credit union itself was never breached.
