DILLSBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – Some athletes at Northern York Senior High School not only know how to perform on their field of play, but they also know how to carry a tune for their country.

The York County school district makes every effort to have one of its students perform the national anthem before every athletic event, whether it’s a varsity football game or a girls’ field hockey game.

Athletic director Gerald Schwille says interested Northern students receive vocal training to perform at athletic and non-athletic events. Schwille says almost all of the school’s sports events begin with a student-sung anthem.

The school’s reputation has extended beyond Dillsburg. Schwille says a number of Pennsylvania colleges and professional sports venues have asked the Northern students to perform the national anthem at their events.
