YORK, Pa. (WHTM) – A woman jailed for the shooting deaths of a man and woman during a home invasion in southern York County has died in prison, according to the coroner.
Coroner Pam Gay’s office said Veronique Henry was found unresponsive in her cell at the York County Prison on Thursday morning after what appears to be a hanging.
Despite medical intervention, Henry did not regain consciousness and subsequently died, authorities said in a news release.
State police are investigating. An autopsy is scheduled for Friday morning.
A county spokesman said Henry “at no time indicated she was contemplating suicide to prison or medical staff.”
Henry, 32, and Paul Henry, 40, of Manchester Township, were jailed in the prison Wednesday on charges including criminal homicide and conspiracy, robbery, aggravated assault, and burglary.
Police said the couple shot and killed 31-year-old Foday Cheeks and 26-year-old Danielle Taylor during a home invasion Tuesday night at Cheek’s house in the 700 block of Brown Road in Fawn Township. Taylor lived in Spring Grove.
Two other women and two boys, ages 12 and 14, were in the house at the time of the shooting. The witnesses told police that after the shooting, the intruders took their cell phones, ordered them to keep their heads down, and searched the house for drugs.
The couple was arrested after leading a state police trooper on a short pursuit that was brought to an end on Route 22/322 near Duncannon.
