LANCASTER, Pa. (WHTM) – A Philadelphia man is headed to trial on charges he invaded a city home and tried to rob an elderly man by posing as a PPL Electric employee.

Alberto Merced, 29, was ordered to be tried in Lancaster County Court on counts of burglary and simple assault after he waived a preliminary hearing on Wednesday, according to District Attorney Craig Stedman’s office.

Authorities say Merced used his ruse on Aug. 19 to get inside a home in the 900 block of Wabank Street. Once inside, he pushed an 85-year-old man to the floor and pointed a gun at his chest.

The elderly victim shouted for his son, who tackled Merced as he fled, city police said.

Merced remains in Lancaster County Prison on $2.5 million bail.
