Substitute teacher faces trial for sending nude photos to student

LANCASTER, Pa. (WHTM) – A former substitute teacher is headed to trial for sending nude photographs of herself to a student at Lampeter-Strasburg High School.

Mattie Jo Evans, 26, of Strasburg, waived a preliminary hearing Friday and was ordered to court on a felony count of disseminating obscene materials to minors and a misdemeanor count of corruption of minors.

Evans was a substitute teacher when she sent about 20 photos to a 16-year-old boy during the 2014-15 school year, District Attorney Craig Stedman’s office said.

According to a criminal complaint, the boy shared the photos and numerous students at the school received them. Evans admitted to West Lampeter Township police that she sent the photos to the boy, even though she knew his age, and that she knew him socially outside of school.

No physical contact is alleged.

Evans is free on $25,000 unsecured bail until her next court appearance.
