CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – Franklin County commissioners say they’re temporarily closing to the public the county-owned property around the fish hatchery on Franklin Farm Lane.
Commissioners said people have been feeding wild ducks and geese, and the bird population has grown to a point where they’re concerned about viruses, bacteria, avian flu, and the welfare of the public, the birds, and the fish.
The county on Thursday will temporarily close the areas and parking lots around the fish hatchery and ban the feeding of ducks and geese. A date for reopening has not been determined.
The county also will use sound devices in an attempt to reduce the bird population.
