EPHRATA, Pa. (WHTM) – A 19-year-old Lancaster County woman has been charged with causing the death of her passenger in a West Cocalico Township crash.
Bethany C. Gee, of Ephrata, was driving 60-68 mph in a 35 mph zone when she failed to stop at a stop sign and lost control as she tried to maneuver through the intersection of West Queen and King streets on the night of May 13, borough police said in a news release Tuesday.
The station wagon Gee was driving struck a wall and rolled. Stephanie M. Gerola, 20, of Ephrata died in the crash. Gee and three back seat passengers were treated at hospitals for serious injuries.
Toxicology results showed Gee was under the influence of marijuana and methamphetamine, investigators said.
Police charged Gee with homicide by vehicle, homicide by vehicle while DUI, recklessly endangering, DUI, and summary traffic violations.
She was released on $50,000 unsecured bail pending a preliminary hearing that is tentatively scheduled for Sept. 29.
