HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – If you’ve been trying to avoid paying those parking tickets, you could soon find a boot on your car.
SP Plus on Thursday began booting cars that have three or more unpaid parking tickets in the city. Previously, drivers with three warrants for unpaid tickets had their cars booted.
On Second Street, emotions about the change are mixed. Tammy Life said booting makes sense and keeps spots open for drivers who pay.
“People who are parking without paying for it, that’s going to be taking away from people who need a spot who are willing to pay for it,” she said.
Terry Haines see the new rule as one more thing to drive business out of the downtown.
“I feel sorry for people who put their life savings into these businesses and restaurants and then the parking is driving the customers away,” he said. “Once you lose a customer, you don’t get them back.”
Haines questioned why people would come downtown and pay to park when they could go to the suburbs and park for free.
To remove a boot from your car, it costs $75. You would also need to pay all outstanding fines.
