How to get in shape for hunting season

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – As hunters, we take such good care of all of our equipment, everything except the one most important thing we neglect the most, that’s ourselves.

With the upcoming season, are you ready for the physical challenge that awaits you?

Getting fit not only makes you a better hunter, but it makes sense.

“One of the most important things is to make sure that before people even get started on a workout routine, that they have a scale of where they are at. If they need to go get a physical from a doctor, or have a chance to meet with a personal trainer. There are a lot of different physical tests that can do to see where their heart rate is going to be. It is based on where their physical condition is, they can start out just walking, or a treadmill, or an elliptical. Or if they are just big into the outdoors, it is simple to just go for a walk up and down the road”, said Brock Waluk, Certified Personal Trainer.

We will spend hours at the reloading bench at the rifle range, days and weeks scouting. But how much effort do we put into an exercise regime?

It doesn’t take as much time as you think.

“Getting out just ten minutes a day. If they have been sedentary most of their life or even for a season, it is huge just to go out for a walk.  Even if it is just ten minutes a day. Then you can gradually work up to doing twenty or thirty minutes every other day. You can do a gradual thing, but something is always better than nothing”, explained Waluk.
