Creature Feature: Nemo and Nugget

The Lionhead Rabbit is a relatively new rabbit breed within the United States.  They began being imported here around 1998 but did not become an officially recognized breed until 2014.

They are small, compact rabbits whose distinguishing trait is their “wooly mane” around their head and some also have this on their flank, hence the name Lionhead.  The “mane” is a gene mutation different from the other long haired breeds and is usually 2 inches long.  They need to be brushed 2-3 times a week and when they are shedding, need to be brushed daily.   They are noted to be well mannered, friendly, outgoing and are intelligent which makes them easier to train.
