HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) — Overnight Thursday and Friday the lanes of I-83 in Lower Paxton Township will be shifted for roadwork.
The new patterns are in the Colonial Park area of Interstate 83 in Dauphin County.
Starting Thursday night at 9 p.m., construction crews will shift the two lanes of I-83 northbound traffic to the right onto the right shoulder and right lane. The lanes will be shifted back by 6 a.m. Friday.
Friday night at 9 p.m., crews will shift southbound traffic onto the right shoulder and right lane. The southbound lanes will be shifted back by 6 a.m. Saturday.
The lane shifts will allow contractors to work in the median, building piers to support the new Elmerton Avenue Bridge and the Route 22 Bridge over I-83.
The bridges are being replaced as part of a construction project so that in 2018, crews can widen this section of I-83 to six lanes.
The widening of I-83 is scheduled to be completed by 2021.
During the roadwork, motorists are asked to be alert to crews and to pay attention to work zone signs. Please slow down when approaching and traveling through the construction work zones.
