HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – The union representing faculty and coaches at Pennsylvania’s 14 state-owned universities is calling for a strike-authorization vote.
The Association of Pennsylvania State College and University Faculties said its leadership agreed unanimously Thursday to forward the vote to its membership.
Union faculty members will vote Sept. 7-9 and coaches will vote Sept. 14-15.
If approved by the union’s full membership, APSCUF leadership could call for a walkout at any time.
About 5,550 faculty and coaches at the universities have been working under a contract that expired on June 30, 2015.
Fall classes are scheduled to begin on Monday.
The state system universities are Bloomsburg, California, Cheyney, Clarion, East Stroudsburg, Edinboro, Indiana, Kutztown, Lock Haven, Mansfield, Millersville, Shippensburg, Slippery Rock, and West Chester Universities of Pennsylvania.
