ENOLA, Pa. (WHTM) – Due to an ongoing mold issue, all East Pennsboro schools will remain closed until Tuesday of next week.
Schools were closed Thursday as the district waited for test results in two buildings after finding mold in two others.
Superintendent Jay Burkhart issued the following statement on Thursday night following the results of an air quality report.
Good Evening Parents/Guardians, this is Jay Burkhart, superintendent of schools, with an important pre-recorded message regarding the operational status of East Pennsboro Area Middle School, East Pennsboro Elementary and West Creek Elementary. I would like to apologize for the lateness of this message as I have just received the report in the last 30 minutes.
Tomorrow, Friday, August 26th, and Monday August 29th, 2016, the East Pennsboro Area Middle School, East Pennsboro Elementary and West Creek Hills Elementary will be closed.
After reviewing the air quality reports from Cumberland Analytical Laboratories, the East Pennsboro Area Middle School and West Creek Hills Elementary had an elevated level Trichoderma Spore which we have been advised by the lab is a spore that is typically found in soil. As a result of this report, the district has also been advised to remain closed through the weekend and all day Monday. During this closure the identified areas will be cleaned and retested on Sunday, August 28th, 2016. We will have the test samples delivered to the lab first thing Monday Morning, August 29, 2016. Cumberland Analytical Laboratories has assured us the reports will be returned by late Monday.
I will continue to communicate updates as I receive them. Thank you for your understanding and patience.
