Ritchie to drop out of state Senate race

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – Jon Ritchie, the former NFL running back who lost the Republican primary for a state Senate seat, won’t be back on the ballot in the November election.

ABC27 News has learned Ritchie plans to withdraw from the race for the 31st Senate District as early as today. The deadline to drop out is Monday.

Ritchie lost a four-way Republican primary to state Rep. Mike Regan, but he received enough write-in votes to run as a Democrat and re-challenge Regan on the November ballot.

It’s now up to Cumberland and York county Democrats to come up with a replacement candidate to run against Regan.

The 31st District includes most of Cumberland County; including Camp Hill, Carlisle, Mechanicsburg, and Mount Holly Springs. It also includes part of northern York County, including Dover and Dillsburg.

The seat is held by retiring Sen. Pat Vance.
