Midstate Memories: WWII Tribute & Swing Dance

NYCHAPS (Northern York County Historical And Preservation Society) is sponsoring their 6th annual WWII Tribute and USO style Big Band Swing Dance on Saturday, August 13, 2016.) This event coincides with the 71st anniversary of VJ Day and the 75th anniversary commemoration of the attack on Pearl Harbor that signaled the United States’ entry into WWII.

“We are also recognizing the 70th anniversary of the Dillsburg High School Memorial program that honored the six Dillsburg High graduates that gave their lives during the war. In addition, two other residents of Dillsburg who were killed in action will be honored. Finally, the event will also remember Dillsburg’s Welcome Home Parade, held Memorial Day, 1946,” tells Doug Riley, tribute organizer.

“We have a number of speakers sharing their anecdotes, including: Art Staymates, who, after an impressive combat record, ended up at Nuremburg as the MP of Hermann Goering; Dick Schimmel, a Pearl Harbor veteran; and many area WWII heroes.”
