HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – A 23-year-old Ukrainian man accused of masquerading as a Harrisburg High School student and having sex with an underage girl has admitted to most of the charges in court.
Artur Samarin pleaded guilty Monday to six felony counts including statutory sexual assault, tampering with public records, identity theft, theft by unlawful taking, and conspiracy. A seventh charge, corruption of minors, was withdrawn during a hearing in Dauphin County Court.
Authorities say Samarin was 19 years old when he used falsified documents to enroll as a freshman at the high school. They say he also had a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old student in 2014 when he was 22 years old.
Samarin faces up to 40 years in prison and $90,000 in fines when he is sentenced Sept. 20, and he still faces federal charges of passport fraud and Social Security fraud.
In a telephone interview with ABC27 News, he said he was just seeking a better life.
