Ukrainian man who posed as Harrisburg student pleads guilty to 6 charges

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – A 23-year-old Ukrainian man accused of masquerading as a Harrisburg High School student and having sex with an underage girl has admitted to most of the charges in court.

artur_samarin_0Artur Samarin pleaded guilty Monday to six felony counts including statutory sexual assault, tampering with public records, identity theft, theft by unlawful taking, and conspiracy. A seventh charge, corruption of minors, was withdrawn during a hearing in Dauphin County Court.

Authorities say Samarin was 19 years old when he used falsified documents to enroll as a freshman at the high school. They say he also had a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old student in 2014 when he was 22 years old.

Samarin faces up to 40 years in prison and $90,000 in fines when he is sentenced Sept. 20, and he still faces federal charges of passport fraud and Social Security fraud.

In a telephone interview with ABC27 News, he said he was just seeking a better life.
