HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – Drivers who use Route 22 westbound to get to I-83 southbound in the Colonial Park area will see a new traffic pattern beginning Monday night.
The ramp on the north side of Route 22 will close and a new ramp on the south side will be opened, according to a PennDOT news release.
Drivers will no longer shift to the right to get to the ramp once they’ve crossed the bridge over the interstate. Instead, they’ll be directed to a turning lane on the left and a traffic signal will control traffic to I-83 South.
The new traffic pattern will likely remain in place until the end of next year.
Drivers on Route 22 eastbound will have a stop sign before entering the ramp to I-83 southbound.
The work is part of a project to replace three bridges over I-83; Elmerton Avenue, Route 22 and Union Deposit Road. The new bridges will allow crews to widen I-83 to six lanes.
The I-83 widening project is scheduled to begin in late 2018 and finish in 2021.
