MANHEIM, Pa. (WHTM) – A body found near railroad tracks in Penn Township was discovered by officers who were searching for a missing man, police said.
Northern Lancaster County Regional police said family members reported a 48-year-old man missing Thursday morning. In the evening, investigators had reason to believe he could be found near the Norfolk Southern tracks near Junction road and West Sun Hill Road.
The body matched the description of the missing man. It was found in a wooded area with dense vegetation about 50 feet off the railroad tracks. A handgun was recovered at the scene, police said.
The body has been positively identified. A cause and manner of death will be determined by the Lancaster County coroner’s office.
