(WFLA) — For many kids, summer is winding down. With school starting in a couple weeks, many families are trying to fit in one last vacation.
The Dedmon family recently got back from a last-minute trip to the Dominican Republic. Mom Amber made sure the apps she let her kids use were educational as well as enjoyable.
“My son, he plays soccer, so he played the FIFA app, and stayed entertained with that,” she said.
The Mateus family used apps from local venues to get the most out of their adventures in Tampa Bay. The Busch Gardens app proved to be the most critical.
“One of my children has dietary restrictions,” Claire Mateus, mother, explained. “[With the app] It’s just a matter of looking up the restaurant that’s in Busch Gardens and then you can go under menu, and then go under allergies.”
The Menold brothers, Anthony, 10, and Nicholas, 7, are taking an end-of-summer trip to visit their grandparents in Ohio. For extra fun, they can use Skyview to look up constellations.
“It’s pretty neat!” said Nicholas.
Some apps use your GPS to help guide you through a city. TourPal will even let users download audio tours.
