Mommy Minute: Summer Movie Express offers $1 flicks

Perhaps even more exciting than a morning at the movies is a morning at the movies that costs just $1.

Grandmother Kathy Weltmer of Middletown watches her grandchildren three days a week and enjoys the opportunity to take them somewhere special.

“I think it’s exciting that I get to have an inexpensive treat for them,” Weltmer said.

Regal Cinema’s Summer Movie Express offers some not-so-newly released kids flicks for just a buck every Tuesday and Wednesday at 10 a.m.

On July 26, audiences can check out either Book of Life or Hotel Transylvania 2.  On August 2 and 3, Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2 and Shaun the Sheep will play.  During the final week, August 9 and 10, kids can choose between The Croods and The Lorax.

“I think it’s still a good lineup,” Witmer said. “Gives me an opportunity to see these movies with my grandkids.”

Renee Grab, meanwhile, owns a Harrisburg day care.

“We come every summer,” she said. “We love it. We get to pick and choose which movie. Sometimes we come Tuesday and Wednesday.”

At at the price of just $1, she can afford to treat her entire group.

“It works for us,” Grab said. “I’ve been trying to find things for them to do that’s economical and this works.”

Concessions are still full-priced during the Summer Movie Express.

The two Regal Theaters that participate in the Midstate are in Susquehanna Township near the Shoppes at Susquehanna and the theater at the Lebanon Valley Mall.
