CARLISLE, Pa. (WHTM) – A bear was spotted Monday morning in a Carlisle neighborhood.
Neighbors say they saw the bear which they believe to be 300lbs tearing through the garbage just feet away from where children live and play. This is the first sighting most neighbors have seen in decades but they are concerned none the less. The concern is mostly for the children who live and play just feet from where the bear was spotted.
Amber Leibfried saw the bear and called the game commission to see if they could relocate the bear. The game commission responded saying unless the bear is a threat, they don’t usually get involved. They say the bear most likely accidentally wandered into the urban area and was just passing through.
Neighbors remain concerned that the bear will be back. Leibfried said “It was in my brothers yard and they easily could have tranquilized it and got it out of this area.” If you encounter a bear the game commission’s advice is to make loud noises, and make your presence known! This is in hopes of deterring the bear from coming closer.
