Columbia woman goes on trial for shooting at shopping center

LANCASTER, Pa. (WHTM) – A jury has been picked for the trial of a Columbia woman accused of shooting another woman in a shopping center parking lot last year.

Ashley Rose Curry, 33, is charged with aggravated assault, ethnic intimidation, and simple assault in the February 2015 shooting in the 900 block of Lancaster Avenue.

Opening statements were scheduled for Tuesday morning.

Authorities say Curry assaulted and used racial slurs against another woman when the 33-year-old victim and a friend intervened. Curry retreated to her vehicle and shot the victim in the stomach with a .40-caliber pistol.

Curry told responding police officers she shot the victim in self-defense and that the victim “deserved it.”
