Bryan Helmer to be named Bears VP of Hockey Operations

HERSHEY, Pa. (WHTM) – The Hershey Bears are expected to name current assistant coach and former team captain Bryan Helmer the franchise’s new Vice President of Hockey Operations.

Gregg Mace reported Tuesday that a Thursday morning press conference is where the Bears will formally name Helmer VP, as he essentially replaces Doug Yingst. Yingst has served as the team’s General Manager and President and is retiring.

Helmer’s playing career was from 1993-2013, during which he served as captain for the Bears in 2008, bouncing between Hershey and Washington with the Capitals.

Hershey lost in the Calder Cup Finals this season in 4 games to the Lake Erie Monsters in Helmer’s 2nd season as an assistant for the Bears.
