HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – The state Health Department is distributing Zika prevention kits to pregnant women.
The kits contain insect repellent for skin, spray repellent for treating clothing and shoes, standing water tablets for killing mosquito larva, condoms to prevent sexual transmission of Zika, and educational materials.
A limited number will be available, free of charge, at health centers, WIC offices, and non-profit organizations for low-income or homeless women.
Pregnant women can visit www.zika.pa.gov to find a kit provider in their area.
Zika is a mosquito-borne virus that presents a major threat to pregnant women or women who plan to become pregnant. Zika infection during pregnancy has been linked to serious birth defects.
