STEELTON, Pa. (WHTM) — The Steelton police department is one sponsor of a week-long soccer camp in the borough.
Markis Millberry, one of the organizers, says that it’s important to point out officers donate from their own pockets to sponsor youth events in the borough, including this camp.
“They continue to impact this community,” said Millberry, “It is not something that they are expected to do, and people are taking notice.”
The camp ends Sunday and is for kids ages 3 and up.
Julianna Paioletti has lived in Steelton for 15 years and says the timing is right for this kind of interaction. Coming on the heels of the recent events that have gained national attention.
Paioletti says the police department has been very active with a lot of events in the borough. “They are getting more involved with our kids,” said Paioletti, “To have an impact on a generation, it is good, to start with the youngest ones.”
After the soccer camp ends students can take part in Monday sessions, once a week, until school starts.
