The Vineyard & Brewery at Hershey is getting ready for a big event. Along with showing off all things strawberry when it comes to wine, beer, cider and soda, the annual “Straws & Stripes” celebration also serves as a way to honor the military.
Money raised from the all-day music festival and release party will go to the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association. The group helps veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder.
Thousands of people will pack the lawn and the deck at the vineyard, enjoying food, and listening to tunes. The Pennsylvania Dairymen’s Association will also be there selling strawberry Farm Show milkshakes!
Organizers are pumped for all of it, but they say they’re even more excited for the opportunity to give back to our nation’s heroes.
“To be able to have a business where we’re having fun with concerts and making great things in beer and wine and local agriculture products, that’s awesome,” The Vineyard & Brewery at Hershey partner Mike Wilson said, “but it really doesn’t make you feel as impactful as someone who is fighting for our country and fighting for our freedom every day. I feel a moral and ethical obligation to support our veterans with those things.”
Last year’s Straws & Stripes raised more than $7,500 for the vets. Organizers hope this year they can raise even more. They’re expecting 5,000 people.
Straws & Stripes runs Saturday, July 9 from 11 a.m.-8 p.m. The cost is $15 in advance, $20 at the gate.
