Body recovered after search of pond in Franklin County


ST. THOMAS, Pa. (WHTM) – Police say the body of a 21-year-old was recovered after crews spent hours searching a pond in St. Thomas Township.

According to a news release, Christian Edenilson Gonzalez, of Chambersburg, accidently drowned Monday morning while swimming in a private pond in the 9000 block of Mountain Brook Road.

The investigation is ongoing .

000002The incident was reported at a private pond in the 9000 block of Mountain Brook Road just before 9 a.m.

Ambulances, police, and firefighters remained on the scene through the afternoon as a rescue team searched the pond by boat.

WHAG-TV reported that a 21-year-old man became stuck after he jumped into the pond for a swim while fishing with friends.

The Public Opinion of Chambersburg reported that searchers located a body around 3 p.m. but did not immediately recover it.
