Distraction burglary reported in Mechanicsburg

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – Police are investigating after they say a man was the victim of a distraction-style home burglary.

It happened at around 10:40 a.m. Wednesday at a home in the 500 block of West Main Street.

According to a news release, the homeowner was working in his backyard when a man approached him about putting up a fence. Police said that’s when an unknown person went inside the home and stole cash.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, roughly 5’8″ and weighing about 175 pounds. At the time of the incident, police said he wore a hat.

Earlier that morning, police said an elderly woman in Lower Allen Township was targeted in a distraction-style home burglary by a man who claimed he worked for the water company.

Investigators believe the same people are responsible.
