Pa. House votes for tax amnesty plan

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – Pennsylvanians who owe back taxes could make payments with reduced interest and penalties under a 60-day amnesty program approved by the state House.

House Bill 1888 was sent to the Senate on Tuesday by a 167-28 vote.

Supporters say estimates from the Department of Revenue suggest the state could recoup nearly $150 million in back taxes.

They say a similar program in 1995-1996 generated $93 million in revenue, and in 2010, a tax amnesty plan generated more than $250 million.
