York doctor’s office manager, husband sentenced for illegally obtaining prescription drugs

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – A former office manager for a York doctor will serve more than two years in prison for using her job to illegally obtain prescription painkillers for her husband, herself and others.

Amy Schneider, 31, was ordered to serve 30 months in federal prison and her husband, 31-year-old Joseph Schneider, was sentenced to 46 months imprisonment, according to U.S. Attorney Peter Smith’s office.

Amy Schneider pleaded guilty in January to illegally using a Drug Enforcement registration to obtain a controlled substance. Joseph Schneider pleaded guilty to acquiring a prescription by fraud or forgery as well as conspiracy and distribution of oxycodone.

Amy Schneider, who was allowed to use pre-signed forms to write refills for patients, wrote prescriptions for her husband and he took the prescriptions to pharmacies.

Smith said the couple obtained between 10,000 and 20,000 tablets. He said the couple took most of the oxycodone, but distributed some tablets to others.
