CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WHTM) – Police have charged a man with murder in the death of a former York County woman.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police charged 28-year-old Mathew Benner in the death of 27-year-old Amanda Strous, a graduate of Dallastown High School and Shippensburg University.
Strous died at a hospital after she was pulled from her burning apartment Saturday.
WSOC-TV reports Benner was arrested in Nevada. He will be charged with murder and arson.
Officials told the television station that their initial investigation indicated the fire was intentionally set while Strous was inside the apartment. They said it was not a random act of violence.
WSOC reported that Benner lived in the apartment above Strous and may have been stalking her.
Strous was engaged to be married on July 30.
