Susquehanna TWP baseball ends historic year with state title loss

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (WHTM) – Prior to this season, Susquehanna Township’s baseball team had never won a state playoff game. Today, they played in their first ever state championship game, losing 2-0 to Bellefonte at Medlar Field.

Mirroring their semifinal game against North Pocono, runs were at a premium, and it appeared pitching would pave the way yet again. Dan Warshawsky started off the first two inning mowing down the first six straight batters with 4 strikeouts. But after giving up the game’s first run in the top of the third, he was pulled early in favor of Austin Dressler, whose 13 strikeout performance carried the Indians in their previous game.

Bellefonte added a second run in the fifth off a throwing error. Susquehanna mounted back-to-back innings in the 5th and 6th loading the bases, but leaving every runner stranded. The Indians were the only Midd Penn school competing for a state title this year.
