Big 33 week arrives, with changes in the near future

HUMMELSTOWN, Pa. (WHTM) – With Big 33 week underway, players from across Pennsylvania and Maryland have the chance to make one last impression as high school players.

Cedar Cliff’s Mike Vitti, who is 1 of 5 local players on Team PA appreciates the opportunity,”It’s humbling, because these guys are so great out here.”

Along with Vitti, District 3 and the Midd Penn Conference are represented by Bishop McDevitt’s trio of Kyree Calli, Joe Joe Headen and Anthony Long. Today the team also announced the addition of Lower Dauphin’s George Hatalowich.

Pennsylvania’s team is also led by one of the top running backs in the country, Miles Sanders out of Woodland Hills. The 5-star running back, who’s leaving for Penn State next week, understands the expectations fans have for him this week, and in his college career.

“It’s a big, big (responsibility). A lot of weight on my shoulders, It’s just humbling.”

Players like Sanders, highly recruited and on their way to a Power Five NCAA school, have become increasingly rare in the Big 33 game. Collegiate commitments have forced many players, including McDevitt’s Kobay White and Bryce Hall, to decline offers to play in the game to join their schools in June. Big 33 Executive Director Dave Trimbur expects that to change next year, when the Big 33 game is moved up a month and played on Memorial Day.

“Recruiting is what really played the key point in saying that they don’t report Memorial Day, they report in June.”

This year’s Big 33 game is Saturday June 18th at Hersheypark Stadium.
