HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – It is graduation season in the region for thousands of high school seniors.
More than 300 students from Central Dauphin East are getting ready for Monday’s ceremony. The class of 2016 will be without one of its classmates.
Reilly Johnson has spinal muscular dystrophy, and he is currently in a hospital in Delaware.
The school district decided to bring the ceremony to Reilly.
Dr. Jesse Rawls is the principal at Central Dauphin East. He says that they have not forgotten Reilly.
“We are actually going to have a seat where he would have sat,” Rawls said. “We are going to put a cap and gown there.”
Giant Center will assist in streaming the ceremony through the district website and fellow senior Jahad Neibauer will carry an iPad during the evening, so Reilly can watch and interact with his classmates.
“You will be able to see his emotions when they call his name,” Neibauer said. “He will see everyone and he will see how all the hard work has paid off at the end of the day, and I think that is most important.”
