Rail line reopened after derailment in Harrisburg

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – A Norfolk Southern spokesman says a rail line has reopened following the derailment of nine empty freight cars.

Dave Pidgeon said one of the freight cars was railed again and taken away and eight others were removed from the track by 10 p.m. Tuesday.

The track has only minimal damage and was not affecting rail service Wednesday.

The cause of the derailment is under investigation. No one was hurt.

Pidgeon said the railroad never alerted fire officials to the derailment because it happened on private property.
