Sentencing scheduled Tuesday for man who beat pit bull

Luis J. Cruz-Padro, Jr. pled guilty to charges of animal cruelty.

YORK, Pa. (WHTM) – Sentencing is scheduled Tuesday for a York man who pleaded guilty to beating a dog.

Luis Junior Cruz-Padro, 28, pleaded guilty to charges of animal cruelty in April.

Last year, video appeared online of Cruz-Padro and two dogs. In the video, Cruz-Padro is seen dragging, punching, and apparently hitting a white pit bull with a belt.

The pit bull, named Bugs, suffered a broken rib and bruising due to the beating. He went to the York County SPCA for treatment and surgery.

Our Andrew Forgotch visited him there, and Bugs was still full of love as he covered his face with lots of wet kisses.

The other dog in the video was Bugs’ daughter, Willa, has also found a loving home. Her adopters renamed her Angel.

Court records show Cruz-Padro was previously sentenced for possession of marijuana with intent to deliver and driving with a suspended license.
