Propane truck crashes, overturns near Manheim

MANHEIM, Pa. (WHTM) – About two dozen people were forced to leave their homes Thursday morning after a propane truck overturned in Penn Township.

000001The truck was hauling about 2,500 gallons of propane when it crashed at the intersection area of White Oak and Newport roads around 8:45 a.m.

Two police officers pulled the driver from the truck. He was transported to Lancaster General Hospital, but a medical condition was not available.

The road was closed for about five hours while hazmat crews worked to contain the propane. Authorities said there was no threat to the public.

000003“Those trucks are built pretty tough to contain this type of damage,” Northern Lancaster County Regional police Lt. George Pappas said, “but there are a lot of other factors that could’ve happened that would’ve made this much worse.”

No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
