Man rescued after boat overturns in Susquehanna River

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – A 69-year-old man was rescued from the Susquehanna River after his boat capsized in the dangerous waters of the Dock Street Dam.

Fire Chief Brian Enterline said rescue teams arrived to find the man pinned against the low-head dam and about 75 yards from the western shore.

“Luckily, the gentleman was able to hold on to his boat, and we were able to deploy our watercraft quickly and use some specialized equipment that we recently purchased to go into the spoil and actually pull him back out,” Enterline said.

“The gentleman is extremely, extremely lucky to be alive,” he added. “This was an absolute near-death experience for this gentleman.”

The man was conscious and talking before he was taken to Harrisburg Hospital for evaluation.
