Police: Woman lied about raising money for church mission trip

LEBANON, Pa. (WHTM) – Police say a woman tricked several business owners into giving her money by claiming she was raising money for a missions trip to Guatemala.

The scam reportedly happened from May 2 to May 13 in Lebanon city and Jackson Township.

The woman said she was a part of the Mount Zion Church of Brethern in Lebanon, but church officials told police there no such mission trip planned and that the woman was no longer a member.

The woman is described as a 45-years-old white woman with long brownish hair with bangs, and several tattoos on her arms and possibly chest area.

Three local businesses who gave cash to the woman have come forward. Police believe there are still others.

Business owners affected by the scam are asked to call the Pennsylvania State Police in Jonestown at 717-865-3647.
