Police chief fired after huffing compressed air to get high

DANVILLE, Pa. (AP) – A central Pennsylvania police chief has been fired after “huffing” a can of compressed air on duty.

Forty-one-year-old Mahoning Township Chief Chad Thomas was fired Monday night by the township supervisors.

He pleaded guilty earlier this month to possessing the product used to clean keyboards and computer equipment for the purpose of inhaling it to get high last May.

The state Attorney General’s Office filed the charges after other officer saw him inhale the compressed air and watched as his eyes fluttered and he became unresponsive.

Thomas is serving 12 months’ probation and must also perform community service.
