RED LION, Pa. (WHTM) – It’s National Mobility Awareness Month, and a Red Lion girl is hoping to win a new van for her wheelchair.
In 2009, Chelsea White was in an ATV accident. The driver lost control and Chelsea was thrown head first into a tree, suffering blunt force trauma to her brain stem. Chelsea was given a five percent chance to live through the weekend. At the time, she was a freshman at Red Lion High School and just received distinguished honor roll.
Chelsea’s mother Carla has become her caregiver. They have a 1988 van to get Chelsea around but are in need of a new one. They’ve entered a national contest in hopes of winning a new wheelchair-accessible van for their family.
“It’s hard to explain to someone who hasn’t suffered a tragedy what it is like. Because you just can’t put it into words how your life changes so that somebody else could understand,” Carla said.
All Chelsea needs to win this new van is the most votes. It doesn’t cost any money.
