Police reserve parking spaces for safe ‘exchange zone’

YORK, Pa. (WHTM) – If you’re looking for a safe place to meet someone new or make an exchange, you can go to York County.

The York Area Regional Police department has two parking spaces reserved as an “exchange zone.”

If you need a spot for child custody exchanges, to meet someone new, or to pick up an item you bought through Craigslist, that is where police say you should go.

The “exchange zone” is under 24-hour surveillance thanks to an equipment donation from Crime Intervention Alarm Company, Inc.

Police hope that people feel safe meeting in the “exchange zone.”

“We are being proactive about it. No one has called up and said can you please do this. We found it. We put it up,” police Sgt. Peter Montgomery said. “I think it’s a great idea and we hope people use it.”

You don’t need to call ahead. You can just show up.
