Harrisburg schools ask for help to prevent fights

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – The Community Relations Committee of the Harrisburg School District Board of Directors hosted a parent and community forum on Thursday at Downey Elementary School.

The focus was to engage parents, families, and local residents and to get input to help students achieve in the classroom and beyond.

More than 40 people had the opportunity to watch a videotaped brawl last month near 14th and Swatara in Allison Hill.

Police said that incident took place after an altercation between students near Harrisburg High School.

District officials said social media plays a big role in disagreements becoming more serious.

They asked members of the community to become more active in monitoring posts so they can intercede and defuse a situation before it gets worse.
