HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – A merger between Penn State Hershey Medical Center and PinnacleHealth System is imminent thanks to a recent court decision.
A federal judge rejected a plan to prevent the merger on the grounds that there are several other hospitals within a reasonable distance.
Both the Federal Trade Commission and the state attorney general’s office oppose the merger, arguing that it would create a monopoly with increased prices and decreased quality.
The combined health care system will be known as Penn State Health.
The two hospitals have signed agreements with insurance providers that would guarantee prices won’t go up for at least five years.
