Carlisle anesthesiologist waives hearing on drug charges

Gregory G. Theodore

CARLISLE, Pa. (WHTM) – A Carlisle anesthesiologist is headed to trial on charges resulting from an alleged drug overdose when he was supposed to be in an operating room.

Gregory G. Theodore, 61, waived a preliminary hearing Monday and allowed all charges to proceed to Cumberland County Court. By waiving the hearing, he did not admit guilt but conceded that prosecutors have enough evidence for trial.

According to a criminal complaint filed by the state attorney general’s office, Theodore used a syringe to inject Demerol, a pain medication he used for surgeries. He was found unconscious in a staff locker room at Carlisle Regional Medical Center after he failed to show up for an operation in June.

During treatment in the emergency room, Theodore told a doctor he had been using Demerol for the past four years. Authorities said he did not have a prescription for the drug.

Theodore is charged with felony drug and misdemeanor theft counts. A formal arraignment is scheduled July 21.
